Luke Sefton

Luke A. Sefton, P.E., C.F.M. is a Licensed Professional Civil Engineer and longtime Arizona resident with over 25 years of civil engineering, surveying, project/fiscal management, and military leadership experience. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Northern Arizona University as well as completion of the Engineer Officer Course in Fort Belvoir, VA and is licensed to practice civil engineering in Arizona and New Mexico.

As Principal of the firm Luke is responsible for complete oversight and coordination of client projects. He specializes in flood studies, drainage reports, storm sewer design, subdivision development, infrastructure design (including street and utility plans), and project management. He has special expertise in hydrology, hydraulic system engineering and floodplain development.  Luke has a long history of being actively involved in infrastructure design, including utility plans, sewer/water and grading plans for residential and commercial developments.

Luke ‘s successful approach to Engineering comes from over 20 years of knowledge and associations gained during his employment in both the public and the private sectors.  He also possesses a unique ability to utilize and manage the creative talents of a team.  He has assisted and been in charge of numerous commercial subdivision and site design projects for the public, municipal and private sector, including the organization of community meetings, presentations, and public outreach.

While serving 12 years as Executive Vice President and Director of Engineering  for SEC, Inc.,  Luke was responsible for budgeting, production monitoring and contract administration.  As the Engineer of Record Luke was in directly in charge of design engineering for public and private infrastructure, construction observations, as-built engineer’s certifications for sewer and water systems, roadways, drainage ways, utilities and site grading projects.

During his municipal employment with the City of Sedona, Luke worked with various agencies to perform inspections on roads, drainage, subdivisions and infrastructures.  He developed professional associations and gained the respect of a number of city and government officials that serve as invaluable resources even today.   Luke later went on to serve as a project manager in the private sector where he specialized in flood studies, drainage, storm water, sewer design, subdivision and infrastructure development.  It was at that time that he was contacted by FEMA for an article about flood design for residential structures in floodplains.

Throughout his career Luke has drawn on the communication and decision-making skills gained during his 19-year career with the Military.  During that time , Luke successfully interacted with local, federal, and foreign governments in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Germany.   As a Major in the Arizona National Guard, he served as a Battalion Training Officer as well as  overseeing the design and construction projects of several Engineering Companies.  He was also a Commander of the Flagstaff National guard unit, held various positions at Camp Navajo, and is a certified U.S. Army Instructor.   He is highly decorated for his management and leadership style along with his ability to provide solutions to severe problems with limited assets.

Luke  is the former area Chair for the the Employee Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) and remains an active volunteer in the Verde Valley and surrounding communities.  He is also a member of the Verde Valley Regional Economic Organization as well as Past President and Current Board Member for Verde Valley Leadership where he volunteers much of his time to community related events.
